A couple of years ago I wrote an article about what Labor Day has become in the 21st century.  If you have a moment, today I invite you to reflect upon the true meaning of Labor Day – beyond the picnics, the family gatherings and the rest of the end of summer activities.

  1. I hadn’t thought of mourning but with everything taking place these days, it makes sense. I have a personal reason to regret…..because , from a split second, my job was gone. I just think of today is the unofficial last day of Summer…..and am enjoying the outdoors as long as I can before the cold weather moves in. Besides there is a preparations , like splitting and stacking firewood, cleaning up the place so that tools etc. won’t be out in the weather coming. By next month the rainy season comes in ( unless climate change has something to say about it ), The garden was……uhmmmm, an experiment to learn for next year, except for the potatoes that are doing well, as far as I can tell anyway.
As far as the middle class and those of us who are no longer in that class, our future is soooo unforeseeable. Our America is not what it used to be……obviously. Today, I choose to use as a generic holiday.
I hope everyone is having/had a pleasant ” Labor Day”.
Thank you , Gaye, for all the labor you put into your site and f.b.

    • The deer ate my garden this year because I was too busy to tend to it. (I have an organic spray I use to keep the deer away.)

I appreciate the kind words, Kathryn. Some days I need that extra bit of encouragement – really I do.

    • You deserve the ” thank you s”. Looks like the organic spray was a bust…..;+). Chalk up another one for wildlife…..HA!! HUG to you!!
