Prepper Book Festival: Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils

Essential oils are tools that preppers of all ages can use to their advantage to maintain health and wellness.  For that reason when a new book on essential oils crosses my desk, I pay attention.

Today’s book is a book written with moms in mind but that is just the beginning.  The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils has information on the twenty-five of the most useful and commonly available essential oils.  Plus, it is chock full of recipes of all types, including a robust section on using essential oils in DIY products for the home and for personal care.

An Interview with Mariza Snyder, Author of The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils

Tell me about your book. What is it about?

The purpose of the Smart Mom’s Guide To Essential Oils is to empower moms and women with natural solutions so they can reclaim control over their health and wellness with simple yet powerful lifestyle changes supported by pure, potent, high-quality essential oils. It’s all about creating non-toxic solutions for the household and medicine cabinet for moms everywhere!

Packed with hundreds of practical, holistic solutions, this complete guide to essential oils covers the most fundamental applications, form creating non-toxic homemade cleaners to relieving common joint and muscle fatigue. Included are recipes for everyday emergencies and on-the-go solutions, while other recipes aim to enhance individual mood, hormones, sleep and weight.

The book also includes special blends for women’s health. With detailed information on the benefits of every type of oil, tips for safe practice, and a comprehensive list of resources, The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils is an indispensable reference for women looking to get the most from their oils.

What type of research did you have to do while writing your book?

A lot of research went into this book. I researched the chemical constituents of the essential oils. I researched green cleaning recipes, natural solutions for children, proper dilutions for each age, hormone support recommendations, how and where to apply essential oils and quality control for choosing essential oils.

There is so much incredible research on the effective of essential oils for treating common, every day, health concerns.

How long did it take to write?

It took 6 months

Every book, fiction, and non-fiction includes a message. What message do you hope my readers will take with them after reading your book?

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

I am a passionate wellness practitioner with over 8 years of experience focusing on women’s hormone health I have a background in biochemistry and certifications in nutrition and aromatherapy. I love teaching women and families how to become healers in their own home.

I became passionate about women’s health after my own health crisis.  Through functional medicine, whole foods and self-care practices I was able to naturally heal my adrenal dysregulation, fatigue and chronic migraines related to hormone issues.

I love to share the benefits of plant-based living. I am an author of 6 books: The DASH Diet Cookbook, The Low Glycemic Index Slow Cooker, The Antioxidant Counter, The Water Infusion Detox Book, The Matcha Miracle and The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils.

As an author in the survival, prepping, self-sufficiency or homesteading niche, what are you personally preparing for?

Ensuring that I have everyday solutions for my family along with natural green cleaning products and personal care products. Maintaining a toxic-free home and body is a big focus for me.

What would be your first prep-step if you were just getting started?

I would recommend grabbing this book and owning three essential oils: Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon. You could easily create cleaning products, personal care products and treat common health issues with these 3 oils.

What movie do you think gives the best portrayal of what could happen?

Not sure, I hadn’t thought about this question before today.

Do you have plans for another book?

Yes, I would love to focus my attention on women’s hormone health.

Is there anything else you would like to share with my readers?

The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils is a must-have guide to transforming your life with natural remedies, green cleaners, and toxin-free personal care recipes in addition to mood and hormone support solutions.

My favorite part about this book is that you can pick it up and use it immediately. Need an on-the-go spray for a sore throat? Done. How about a soothing balm for muscle pain? Found on page # 91.

The Final Word

Although I started using essential oils in the late 1980s, I did not make them a part of my day-to-day life until six years ago. These days, I reach for essential oils first, before the Advil and instead of over-the-counter first aid ointments that contain who-knows-what.  Sometimes I apply oils “neat” (directly to the skin), but most of the time I used them mixed in a carrier oil or salve, or diffused into the air with a diffuser.

If you have not dabbled in essential oils and want to learn more, The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils is a great book to learn from. For more information about the books in this latest book festival, visit Prepper Book Festival 14: Books to Learn, Prepare, and Be Ready for Anything.

  1. I would like to learn more about all of the essential oils, i.e., their specific uses for whatever ails you.

  2. I would like to learn more about lavender and all the things it can be used for.

Gaye, I was afraid I would get the VIRUS warning again that I’d gotten the last 3 times I was at Backdoor Survival, but I didn’t. I wonder what’s going on – it’s just your site that has been infected. Has anyone else mentioned this happening to them?

    • The ad networks have been serving up “bad ads”. They are geo-targeted and I have been unable to duplicate them but I know they are happening. I have been getting one or two reports a week. Adsense (Google) is telling me that they are catching them as quickly as they can.

I pay Sucuri for a firewall and also malware service to ensure my site is safe. I have confirmed that my site is clean and continue to do so. Please be aware that I am sorry this has happened. On the other hand, I am glad the problem has gone away 🙂

Just to be clear, it is not my site that is infected. The warning is coming from ads served by Google from my website to certain geo-targets.

    • I get these nearly every time, too. You are not the only site that they pop up on. I typically get them only on mobile but not on my laptop.

  3. I would like to learn about a DYI for itching relief… ant bites and especially flea bites.. drive me to itching like crazy.

  4. Always love learning new info, but I especially interested right now in herbs and oils that will help high blood sugar and blood pressure.

    • Have you seen this one? Be sure to read through the comments.

  5. I really need more information on using essential oils. I’m beginning to accumulate a reasonable supply of oils and want to know more.

  6. I have never used essential oils, so I would like to learn more about how to use Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon essential oils to create cleaning products and personal care products and to treat common health issues.

  7. I would like to learn more about oils that help to control blood sugar. Being diabetic and working with my diet has helped but I am also on a couple of medications. If SHTF my medication more than likely will not be available so I would like to know beforehand and be prepared. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of the book.

  8. I feel so inept when trying to use natural, herbal, or essential oil solutions to health problems. I really need a simple go-to book or website that can help me with basic knowledge and to improve my confidence.

  9. Why do my comments await moderation? I have been posting to your site for years & years. 🙁

Oils I would like to learn more about…a ything that could sub for lavendar…I am allergic & cannot use it. 🙁

    • I believe that is a new “feature” of WordPress. I have not been able to stop that from happening and it is as annoying for me as it is for you 🙁

  10. Do you know that dads are also concerned about their children’s health? As a single parent, I find some of this a little offensive.
I like the idea of using natural things to aid with our health and well being.
I would really like to learn more.

    • I for one, have the utmost respect for single parent Dads. Alas, many authors tend to lump all-caregivers into the mom bucket. I guess they feel they will sell more books that way.

  11. I would like to learn more about DIY products and essential oils that can be used on/for/around children and animals.

  12. I would like to learn more about tea tree oil’s uses and I am also interested in women’s hormone health.

  13. I don’t know why I have procrastinated on EO’s. I have all the tools, formula’s and books. I just cannot seem to get my fanny in gear to continue. At 74 yo should not be shoving this to the back burner. With todays news and world situation one never knows when the other shoe will drop. So today is the day for experimenting. Tanks for all you do.

  14. I would like to learn more about health and healing oils for older people. I would also like to learn more about gardening and sewing.

  15. Still learning the multitude of uses for essential oils. It would be much easier to have all of this knowledge in a single book instead of having to google and read through so many conflicting articles by people who are not necessarily as knowledgeable as they probably should be. (When an article gives me no possible side effects I just move on). We all could use this book. Thanks Gayle!

  16. I’m always looking for more information on essential oils and uses and blends. I have followed your site for a few years now. I learned when I had a very specific need for a pain blend to get off the narcotics and OTC pain meds. Your arthritis roller pain formula was a true blessing. It has worked for me and a severely triple broken upper arm, my wife’s broken ankle, and some relatives who had knee replacement.

  17. We fight a never-ending war against mold and fungi in the Deep South. Which essential oils can help us overcome these health risks?

  18. I am just getting into essential oils and a cleaner home environment. Information would be so helpful if placed in one place like this book. I am anxious to read it.
