When I was first approached about reviewing a body armor product on Backdoor Survival, I turned the company down flat. I had taken a look at their product and after noting the complicated fitting instructions, measurements, and a whole bunch of other things I could not figure out, I felt best to take a pass.
Two years passed and when another company, Infidel Body Armor, contacted me, I decided to take another look to see if they offered a product more suitable to my readers. I was pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of their product line so I decided to go forward and not only show you the product but also offer one for free to a lucky Backdoor Survival reader.
Summer Survival Blast: Infidel Body Armor Review
Why Body Armor?
You might be asking yourself, why body armor? At first I asked myself the same thing but after thinking about it, I came up with the following five situations where body armor would be useful if not life-saving:
- While hunting game for food, especially if accompanied by inexperience hunters.
- Post SHTF militia duties within your neighborhood or community.
- While walking or riding around in urban areas during times of civil unrest or riots.
- Driving to a bug-out-location in order to escape the madness following a disaster of monumental proportions or a collapse of society.
- Catching Zombies (okay, Shelly aka the Survival Husband added that one).
The Infidel “Viper Modular Plate Carrier with Armor Plates”
The body armor I selected for review is sized to fit an M to XXL frame. Since I am more of an XS, I recruited Shelly to do the honors. Once we figured out which was the front (the front has a kangaroo pouch) and which was the back, making fit adjustments was easy.
The body armor comes with two, Level III armor plates. They are inserted in the vest before you put it on. Each steel plate weighs 7.5 pounds and the anti-spall coating adds an additional 1.5 lbs. Side plates are also available but not included in the basic package.
Information about the testing and stopping power of the Level III plates can be found here.
The first time you use the vest, you will want to adjust the shoulder straps until they feel comfortable. There are numerous Velcro adjustments ensuring a perfect fit. Actually, once adjusted, you probably will not feel them at all. Getting in an out of the vest is easy after that; all you need to do is unhook the sides to put the body armor on or take it off.
Perhaps someone else would not notice but something Shelly really liked was that there were no loose flaps. Note the front “kangaroo” pocket. The entire package is compact with nothing to distract you from the task at hand.
Comfort? “Not bad and a whole lot better than I expected.”
As always, I leave it up to you to visit the Infidel Body Armor website for the technical specs since they do speak for themselves.

The Final Word
I asked Chad, the owner of Infidel Body Armor the following question: What is the #1 reason your customers purchase body armor?” Here was his response.
I believe there are a number of reasons including professional usage by police officers, etc.; but, as far as the average Joe goes… he or she purchases to be better prepared to fight against tyranny and threats to life, liberty, and property.
I hope you enter the giveaway and that except for hunting, you will never need to use body armor for personal defensive purposes while fighting bad guys. Alas, the future is a bit uncertain and if the stuff hits the fan, body armor will come in handy.
Good luck, everyone!
