Sunday Potpourri: Or Shall I Say the Sunday Buzz ?

6899227853 1e08172f6b Sunday Potpourri: Or Shall I Say the Sunday Buzz ?There are so many things to report today I hardly know where to begin.  I suppose the first thing is to let you know that it has been suggested that I change my Sunday potpourri update to “The Sunday Buzz”  So what do you think?  Personally I like it but if you have an opinion, let me know here.

Either way, the plan is to continue to use my Sunday article as a catch-all for various tidbits from the world of Backdoor Survival.

So what’s up this week?

Our Newest Sponsor – Everlasting Seeds

I am very proud to let you know about our newest sponsor, Everlasting Seeds.  I have had my eye on this company for awhile since I knew that they had a high quality product and that they were somewhat of a pioneer in providing quality heirloom seeds for long term survival purposes (as well as everyday use).  I have a lot more to say about Everlasting seeds but for now, will just mention that they are offering a welcome special of 10% off to my readers when they use this special link:  Backdoor Survival 10% off Special.

The easiest way to get the 10% discount is to click on banner to get to the the Everlasting Seeds site.  Browse around (and there is a lot of interesting reading) then come back and click on the Backdoor Survival 10% off Special link to get to the special order page.  (This is a lot easier to do than to describe).

Survival Week

This site has been around for over a month now and with each day it gets more robust. SurvivalWeek is a news aggregator that was launched by four very passionate preppers that are rabid consumers of information. They are currently monitoring around 70 sites daily for the latest and greatest in prepping and survival articles.  Did I mention that articles for Backdoor Survival are prominently featured?

You can sign up for a free membership and receive a weekly e-mail for insights, updates and highlights of the best information they have found during that week.   All in all this is a visually stunning site that I think you will return to again and again.

The Next US

I am thrilled to report that The Next US is  online again.  Here you will find some inspiring and heartwarming videos that they have produced about real people and real situations around the country.

Take a look at this one:

A lot of people talk about creating something from nothing, but when an F5 tornado wipes your town and livelihood off the face of the earth, you get to really see what that’s like. Meet the former auto body shop owner and antiques dealer, Scott and Susan of Greensburg, Kansas, who let their passion be their guide in this episode of The Next US. which is about about a couple to basically created something from nothing.

The Next US

I would be remiss if I did not also mention that David and Susan at The Next US have been fabulous supporters of Backdoor Survival from almost day one.  They are the best!  I hope you will visit their site.  After watching a few of their little films, you will surely have a smile on your face.

Solving the Portable Knowledge Problem

What are the Two G’s up to now?  George and I again put are heads together to come up with something new at Strategic Living.  The article is all about having a portable survival library because after all, if the power grid goes down, all of the neat little iPads, Kindles, and other readers are going to be useless.

The gist of the article is that there are four primary books that should be in everyone’s library and further, they should not just take up space on the shelf.  We all need to engage brain cells to learn some of this stuff so we do not have to lug around a lot books if SHTF.

Oh yeah, there is also the usual banter about the state of our country, threats of terrorism and nuclear attack, and all that other stuff we tend to rant about.

Sidebar:  If you would really like some amusing banter, you should eavesdrop on one of our weekly video conferences.  Somehow an hours call always turns in to two and the topics?  Well, jump over to Strategic Living and you will get the drift LOL.

The Prepper Trader

There is a new site on the net featuring free classified of the prepping kind.  According to Dan Tune:

“I started PrepperTrader.com to help Preppers, survivalists and self sufficient folks buy, sell and trade with each other. There is a market between those just beginning to prep and those that have been prepping for years and would like to sell off their older stuff to finance an upgrade of some sort. Since the very nature of prepping is to preserve, most of that old stuff is in great shape! Best of all Prepper Trader is free!”

I checked out the site and there is not much there right now except for some ads.  I suspect that over time, however, we will see lots of things listed.  I hope that this becomes someplace where we can list things for barter.  For example, a restaurant owner could list some no longer needed used food grade buckets in exchange for some home grown produce.  Anyway, good luck to Dan on the launch of his site.

And on a Personal Note

If you are good at reading between the lines, you will have realized that we had a small medical crisis in our household a couple of weeks ago.  Luckily, things were not as critical as we were led to believe and all is back to normal again (whatever normal is).  That said, I have a bit of personal surgery that will be taking place on the 27th and while this is not a life threatening (heaven forbid) situation, it involves my eyes so it is important to get this done.

So what does this mean?  Well, the recovery is a couple of weeks but I have some great articles in process that will be sent up to the blog while I am recuperating.  My apologies in advance if I do not respond to your emails during that time.

The Final Word

That just about wraps things up for today.  Watch for our next regular article on Tuesday.  And don’t forget to visit today’s post on Strategic Living:  Solving the Portable Knowledge Problem.

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Could you recommend a good used and reliable geiger counter and someone (online business) who sells them? I know that they are very expensive if new.

You are in my prayers for your healing and kindness in helping us prepare. You have been a great source in helping me prepare. Thank you very much.

    • I really do not have a source for geiger counters although you might want to go to the Threat Journal folks – that may be something they sell in their store. You can sign up for their free newsletter through the link on my blog and then once your receive your newsletter, go to the links to their store.

    • I just wanted to let you know that Geiger Counters are also available from one of my sponsors, Ready Made Resources. The prices seemed pretty reasonable for this sort of thing. Here is a link:
