Happy Anniversary Backdoor Survival!

Print Friendly

anniversaryToday I would like to share a quick “Happy Anniversary” to myself as I celebrate the two year anniversary of registering the domain “Backdoor Survival”.  The time has just flown – faster than you can imagine.

Although I did not start writing about preparedness and survival in earnest until early 2011, this soon became both my passion and my mission. As of today, I have written 358 articles all of which are original content with some excerpts and quotes from other talented authors along the way.

When I talk to people they ask “why Backdoor Survival?”.  Where did that come from?  Well, as I say on in my About section:

Gaye Levy (Custom)I grew up in a modest Seattle neighborhood where everyone new each other and we all left our back door’s unlocked. The front door was for company or strangers whereas our friends and family and those with the spirit of a new adventure ventured around the side of the house to back door.

Alas, times are different today and for many, the thought of leaving a door unlocked is unheard of. And so the traditional, always-open physical back door is gone, replaced by a virtual backdoor instead – ready to surprise and delight with new inspiration and alternatives for living life to the fullest.

Backdoor Survival is here to provide lifestyle tools, tips, and thoughts to guide you through the back door of life in the 21st century. The practical, the thoughtful, and a bit of the magical are all here to catch you by surprise, to make you think, to ask you to consider doing things in a different way. Not better. Not worse. Just different.

We have many challenges ahead of us: economic, political, environmental and more. Here at Backdoor Survival I want to address life’s challenges by looking forward and by assisting you to manage your future with optimism and grace. And perhaps with a tip or two to help you along your way.

As someone who grew up and embraced the feminist movement in the seventies, I later moved on to the rah-rah “dress for success” days of the 80s and 90s.  Gone now, by choice, are the fancy cars, the fancy clothes and the the outward expression of materialism from those days gone by.  Instead, I live a much calmer, and dare I say happier life with a lot less on the outside and a lot more on the inside.

In some small way, I hope that with Backdoor Survival I am giving back to the world that has been so good to me.  My only wish is that in spite of the turmoil around us, we as a community continue to persevere and survive when the forces against us try to wear us down.

God bless you all!  I am humbled by your loyalty and grateful for your support!

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Gaye

I had always thought that I had a pretty good idea of some ways to be prepared for unexpected things that might happen. That is, until I started reading your website BackdoorSurvival.com. While I’m thanking you for your great website… I must also thank George Ure for his website, UrbanSurvival.com, as that is how I first became aware of your website. Thank you for the wealth of very good information that you provide… and also the well-balanced way that you present it. Thank you!
