Are you ready for the next Backdoor Book Festival? Today I am launching the next in a series of book festivals featuring exclusive author interviews and of course, book giveaways. Once again, I have some great new titles for you in both survival fiction and non-fiction genres. In the mix you will find a wide range of topics and writing styles. There is truly something for everyone.
It goes without saying that I am grateful to each of the authors and their publishers for being willing to open up and share their thoughts and their books with Backdoor Survival readers.
Thank you, everyone for your past and future participation in the Backdoor Survival Book Festivals.
I hope you will find something interesting to read in the coming weeks.
Before I start, for the benefit of the Backdoor Survival newbies, let me tell about the Backdoor Survival book festivals and how they work.
What the heck is a book festival?
Glad you asked. Over the course of the next couple of months, I will be featuring survival and prepping book giveaways coupled with exclusive one on one author interviews. In most cases I will follow up with my own mini-reviews as well.
For each book giveaway, I will ask a question and request that you provide an answer in the comments section of the article. A winner will be selected at random and the book or e-book will be sent directly by the author or the publisher.
That is how it works – pretty easy. So enough babble from me, let us get started with Book Festival 4.0.

When it comes to survival, one size definitely does not fit all. That’s exactly what author FJ Bohan discovered when he and his family set out on a quest for self-sufficiency, a journey that lasted more than 17 years. In his book, he describes why and how the Bohan family set off to begin a life of self-sufficiency. Along the way, they learned a lot about living off the land and off the grid, mostly through trial and error.
In this book, they share the lessons that were learned including:
- Keeping a wife, four boys, two dogs, and two cats happy in a tent for 18 months
- Creating power for a tent or cabin through a combination of solar panels, car batteries, generators, and oil
- Heating and cooking on wood stoves
- Finding creative ways to earn money in an insular, impoverished rural area
- Securing enough water in the desert for a family of six, plus animals, to live on
- Erecting fences—literal and figurative ones—for privacy and security
- Raising chickens, goats, and ducks for food, while avoiding bears, bobcats, skunks, and other country critters

He and his family are hesitant to leave their beloved Lake County, but with increasingly suspicious activities happening in a nearby refugee camp, all signs point towards defecting. Morgan and his friends aren’t going to leave without a fight, though—and they’ll do anything to protect their freedoms.

After a world-wide EMP blast destroyed the technology we all depended upon, most of the world’s population perished. Not right away, of course, but fast-foods were no longer available, and that meant starvation for people who never learned how to cook. Supermarkets were ransacked and burned, leaving even those who knew how to cook with nothing to eat. The final straw for city-dwellers was when the water stopped flowing from their faucets.
This is the story of the scattered survivors in and around a sleepy little suburban town who must find a way to overcome their differences and work together to create a new society – one that treats everyone equally and fairly.
