I have become a bit discouraged by the number of other-wise intelligent people I meet that do not have a clue about preparedness.  Given that a natural disaster can happen to anyone at any time, and the fact that the MSM has been promoting 3 day kits for the past several years, I have to think “What Type of Sandbox are these people living in?”

Of course those of us in the know realize that a 3 day kit is the bare minimum requirement for survival following a disaster.  We also know that a natural disaster is only one type of threat.  Cyber attacks, EMPs, and the dreaded collapse of the global economy are just a few of the other major threats we face in the 21st century.

50 Questions To Ask the Non Prepper Backdoor Survival

Because of this, I am sharing some questions that should be asked and answered by those that have not awakened to the call to prepare.  The questions were created by Michael Snyder, a prolific seeker of truth who writes The Economic Collapse Blog.  He also is a person who cares about our country and our world and who gave this blogger lots of encouragement as I was just getting started a few years ago.

But first, let us answer the question “What is a Prepper?”.

What Is a Prepper?

To paraphrase what Michael says in his article, “anyone that can see a very serious crisis coming and that is taking steps to prepare for that crisis is a prepper.”  You may have preppers living next door to you and truth be told, they may not want to label themselves for fear of ridicule. And yet you and I both know they are not being foolish.

What better insurance policy than one that assures our survival and personal sustainability while at the same time lines our cupboards and shelves with food and supplies rather than the pockets of mainstream insurance companies that are racking in profits from our use-or-lose premiums?

#48 Why is the UN trying to take control of the Internet?

According to the Swiss Federal Institute, a network of 147 mega-corporations control 40 percent of all the wealth in the world, and in a previous article I described how just six obscenely powerful corporations completely dominate the media industry in the United States. Is it good for such incredible power to be concentrated in the hands of so few people?

The Final Word

I share this with you today because we, as a group tend to have friends and relatives that scoff at our efforts and consider our preparedness lifestyle a bit “off”.  Okay, lets be honest.  They consider us nut jobs.

That being said, having blind faith in a broken system is foolhardy at best.  Taking personal responsibility for our own long-term welfare is going to be key in surviving the years of crisis and hard times ahead of us.  My own opinion is that we must fall – and fall hard – before our global economy will recover. That recovery is going to take years and I will probably be a very old lady before that happens.

I encourage you to share this message and this article with at least one person that is on the fence. We all need to do our part to to wake up the world.

Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Grabber Outdoors Original Space Brand All Weather Blanket50 Questions To Ask the Non Prepper Backdoor Survival:  I was interested in a re-usable emergency blanket so I purchased one of these based upon the excellent reviews.  This space blanket is definitely “heavy duty” compared to the cheapies (not that they don[t have their place.  A Backdoor Survival reader passed on this tip:

We place one of these blankets silver side up on our mattress underneath the fitted sheet or mattress cover.  It reflects body heat like you wouldn’t believe, instead of the heat being absorbed into the mattress.

I also have built a total of five 2000-hour flashlights using this Eveready Lantern as a base.

AquaPodKit - Emergency Drinking Water  Have you considered storing water in your bathtub?  The AquaPod is a bladder that you can use in your bathtub to store water if you know that a storm, flood, or hurricane is brewing.

50 Questions To Ask the Non-Prepper — 20 Comments

  1. Some of those are a bit dated. However, most “well informed” people may know about 4 or 5 of them – and shrug it off!
Also, it used to be that you could use the US dollar anywhere, even the deepest jungles of Africa or the Amazon. Now in many countries the US dollar is accepted either very reluctantly or not at all!

I don’t think you can convince me that everything is or soon will be fine.

  2. I have one question that might be added to this list–

What is stopping the fools in the government from getting on sites like this and knowing what preppers are learning? Doesnt it make sense that they would so they will actually know who is truely a prepper and who is not?

  3. Thank you for the informative article regarding the questions to ask a non- prepper. You put a great deal of time and effort asking questions and linking to evidence. Great job getting the word out.

  4. The #1 question for me is…silver coins were used by our US pioneers in their water barrels to keep them drinkable. Not many know that, but it’s a major reason I have some ‘extra’ silver coins and a few of those silver baby cups. ;)
Michele, it’s not just the government you need to be concerned about when considering who might be monitoring these prepper sites. Large corporations have unbelievably HUGE amounts of data on each of us. Ever notice how your websites seem to have ads aimed just at you? If you talk to the 30 somethings and younger, they can tell you just how privacy doesn’t exist so much on the ‘net.

    • do you know of any place i can get information on how to use silver to purify water? i know it can be done and has been done for centuries, but can’t find anything specific online. no doubt the companies who make water filters are suppressing the information, but it has to be out there somewhere. thank you.

      • It’s out there. Here’s one place to find some info. Sometimes it’s worth knowing history to know where to look for it. i.e. the American pioneers kept their silver dollars in their water barrels to keep their water clean and drinkable. People of wealth and those who could, upon the birth of a child, gave a small silver cup for th e child. You’ve heard, “Born with a silver cup in his/her mouth.” It wasn’t known how and even today they still don’t know much, but a baby or child drinking from a silver cup didn’t seem to suffer so many illnesses back then. Here’s a bit of current thinking along that line.

  5. It isn’t just the government and large corporations. It is also the people. Most people are afraid of the terms “prepper” and “conspiracy theorist”. They never realise that they may just be proving that they are incapable of rational thought! They would rather vote for someone that will give them something, regardless of who has to pay for it, than for someone that will really do something to help them help themselves.
I do realise that our main stream media has demonized the terms prepper and conspiracy theorist, but the people let them do it! Just like they are letting the government demonize whistle blowers!

    • I disagree in a way Jim. I see the government and corporations gathering info so they gain more power. I see many of “the people” as followers which are in most cultures. No see ‘um, no hear ‘um, no speak ‘um. I’m thinking these would be the ‘zombies’ I keep hearing about. Of course the media has demonized. In so doing, it is supposed to isolate the thinkers and independent minded people when anything untowards happens.
There is a saying for those who grow oysters, “You gotta shuck a lot of oysters to find the pearls.” ;) Guess who the pearls are?

  6. Thanks Jim and Dee– I guess i have been worried that since i am a kind of beginning prepper (4 years) that i am worried that if i buy certian things it will target me as a prepper for FEMA to come and take my supplies when S.H.T.F.

    • You’re welcome. It really isn’t about worrying, it’s about being aware and making the preps for you and your family. To be honest, I don’t worry about FEMA nor anyone else taking my supplies. I actually have plans for when that happens. If it doesn’t, then I will have extra, if it does…..well, let’s just say that’s taken care of too. :) Worry is like fear, it can keep you from doing what needs doing. Both are mind killers.

  7. While this article provides a much needed wake-up call, the vast majority of folks have no idea just how basic our survival might become within hours or even minutes.
Survival so basic… such as the air that we breathe, the water that our bodies desperately need, and some food whenever we can get it.
Warmth from the elements and protection from aggressors.
Extra attention should be given to Items #5, #15, and #49 listed above.
Much of the other stuff might ultimately prove to only be distractions from the survival reality that might suddenly appear before us.
After all, it’s a long-shot to think that a person would survive on a diet of 99.9% pure gold.

  8. Thanks for a step by step list of what the mind of a crazy person looks like. Now I know to turn and run if anyone asks me one of these questions! I don’t want to catch stupid. I here it is contagus, I think I read an article about it online so it must have been real.
