I have become a bit discouraged by the number of other-wise intelligent people I meet that do not have a clue about preparedness. Given that a natural disaster can happen to anyone at any time, and the fact that the MSM has been promoting 3 day kits for the past several years, I have to think “What Type of Sandbox are these people living in?”
Of course those of us in the know realize that a 3 day kit is the bare minimum requirement for survival following a disaster. We also know that a natural disaster is only one type of threat. Cyber attacks, EMPs, and the dreaded collapse of the global economy are just a few of the other major threats we face in the 21st century.
Because of this, I am sharing some questions that should be asked and answered by those that have not awakened to the call to prepare. The questions were created by Michael Snyder, a prolific seeker of truth who writes The Economic Collapse Blog. He also is a person who cares about our country and our world and who gave this blogger lots of encouragement as I was just getting started a few years ago.
But first, let us answer the question “What is a Prepper?”.
What Is a Prepper?
To paraphrase what Michael says in his article, “anyone that can see a very serious crisis coming and that is taking steps to prepare for that crisis is a prepper.” You may have preppers living next door to you and truth be told, they may not want to label themselves for fear of ridicule. And yet you and I both know they are not being foolish.
What better insurance policy than one that assures our survival and personal sustainability while at the same time lines our cupboards and shelves with food and supplies rather than the pockets of mainstream insurance companies that are racking in profits from our use-or-lose premiums?

According to the Swiss Federal Institute, a network of 147 mega-corporations control 40 percent of all the wealth in the world, and in a previous article I described how just six obscenely powerful corporations completely dominate the media industry in the United States. Is it good for such incredible power to be concentrated in the hands of so few people?
The Final Word
I share this with you today because we, as a group tend to have friends and relatives that scoff at our efforts and consider our preparedness lifestyle a bit “off”. Okay, lets be honest. They consider us nut jobs.
That being said, having blind faith in a broken system is foolhardy at best. Taking personal responsibility for our own long-term welfare is going to be key in surviving the years of crisis and hard times ahead of us. My own opinion is that we must fall – and fall hard – before our global economy will recover. That recovery is going to take years and I will probably be a very old lady before that happens.
I encourage you to share this message and this article with at least one person that is on the fence. We all need to do our part to to wake up the world.
Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Bargain Bin: Preparing for hard times requires so much stuff. Just where do you start? How do you know whether what you have will do the job? I always like to recommend that you start by taking inventory of what you already have on hand. Here are some of my favorites.
Coghlans Waterproof Matches 10-pack: There are 10 boxes of 40 matches each for about $6. That is a good deal for 400 waterproof matches.
Morakniv Craftline Q Allround Fixed Blade Utility Knife: FAVORITE! Also known as the Mora 511, this is now my favorite knife. It is made of Swedish steel and is super sharp. Many Backdoor Survival have emailed me indicating this is now their favorite knife too. I paid $12 for this knife; it was worth $12 and of course is a steal at $8.77.
Grabber Outdoors Original Space Brand All Weather Blanket: I was interested in a re-usable emergency blanket so I purchased one of these based upon the excellent reviews. This space blanket is definitely “heavy duty” compared to the cheapies (not that they don[t have their place. A Backdoor Survival reader passed on this tip:
We place one of these blankets silver side up on our mattress underneath the fitted sheet or mattress cover. It reflects body heat like you wouldn’t believe, instead of the heat being absorbed into the mattress.
Emergency Flashlights: There are many choices when it comes to flashlights. I prefer to have a lot of small flashlights stashed all over the place. My favorites are the uber-cheap Mini Cree and the Blocklite. I also have built a total of five 2000-hour flashlights using this Eveready Lantern as a base.
AquaPodKit – Emergency Drinking Water Have you considered storing water in your bathtub? The AquaPod is a bladder that you can use in your bathtub to store water if you know that a storm, flood, or hurricane is brewing.
SABRE RED Police Strength Pepper Spray: This fits in the palm of your hand and is equipped with a convenient hand strap for immediate deployment. SABRE delivers a strong ballistic stream to reduce wind blow back and permits safe distance from your threat with its ten (10) foot range.
One of my favorite deals this month is this Mountain House Flavor Vault Combo that includes both the Italian Pepper Steak and Chicken Fried Rice meals that I recently taste-tested.
Another great special is their Peanut Butter Powder which is only $12.99 this month. That is a 46% savings. All told, this month the sales at Emergency Essential are a real win!
